112k .doc to review the National Trust for
Nevis
to be approved at the 2005 Annual General Meeting.
Hello
NHCS Members and visitors to our website,
I would
like to give you some background information on the evolution
to a National Trust for Nevis.
• May, 2002 the Nevis Island Administration announces
that the government would like to develop a National Trust
for Nevis.
• June, 2002 the NHCS Board of Directors decides to
take a proactive role in working with government on their
proposal.
• February, 2003 at the NHCS AGM a decision is made
to hold a special membership meeting to further discuss a
National Trust for Nevis.
• April, 2003 an extraordinary membership meeting was
held to plan a way forward for a National Trust by establishing
a Steering Committee.
• May, 2003 through present, the Steering Committee
meets every two weeks.
• Since 03 we have developed Draft Legislation and By-Laws.
Historical site plans are still being developed, and a time-line
is in place.
The National Trust document has been
agreed upon by the NHCS and the NIA Legal Department. We are
now waiting for the Legal Department to introduce the document
to the NIA Cabinet for their concurrence.
At our
AGM meeting we will be only approving the content of the document.
We will need to wait until the Government makes an official
announcement before we can officially vote on the transformation
from NHCS to Nevis National Trust.
